We went camping this past weekend at the Forestville/Mystery Caves State Park in Preston, MN. With any adventure we go on, it is important for Jeremy to continue to train for the marathon coming up in October. Nonetheless, this weekend called for a 15 mile run. Perfect. The country roads are so beautiful in this part of the state.
Jeremy got up so early just so that it would not eat into the day (very thoughtful). He made it back just as Jack and I were getting up. He told me that he had a little problem though. The problem was that he had been bitten by a dog while he was running. I didn't believe him. How do you get bit by a dog when you run?
Apparently he had run by this local farm and saw a dog and his owner. The dog started to chase after him, but the owner called him back and he obeyed. Then Jeremy had to run by the farm again on his way back. This time the dog was outside without his owner and without a leash. The dog chased after Jeremy and jumped up and bit him on the hip. Jeremy yelled, "No!" to the dog and he relented and ran up his drive-way.
We spent a good portion of time the rest of the weekend trying to find out if the dog was up to date on its shots. First we went to the state park office. Jeremy explained where the dog was a what it looked like. They knew the owner's father-in-law. Then they called the sheriff so we could file a report and so that the sheriff could intercede on our behalf with the dog owner. After lots of time and no reply from the sheriff, we finally went back to the park office and got a hold of the dog's owner. The good news is that the dog is up to date and Jeremy will not have to endure rabies shots. However, he may carry mace with him if he runs on country roads again!
